They finally announced the rest of the fun fun fun fest lineup... I already knew about the Dead Milkmen (OMG!), so the deal was already sealed. But, damn, the Adolescents, Bad Brains, DOA, Bouncing Souls, Leftover Crack, and and and. And Kool Keith too, hehe. Now I just have to not forget to buy tickets when they go on sale, and then wait patiently for November. S is gonna be so happy when she sees this! |

I feel as though I might be responsible for the short torrential downpour in NW Austin right now as today I washed my windshield, left my car windows down after lunch, and wore a hot-pink bra under a light colored shirt. That is pretty much asking for it.
I know we really need the rain, but I hope it doesn't rain too much this weekend because I am supposed to finish up the bookcase I started last Saturday, and I have to stain it. And I want to do some gardening too, please. |

Donuts, coffee, and Greco-Roman wrestling. This is the best start to a Thursday I think I've ever had.
Plus, S comes home today! F-i-n-a-l-l-y. |

| Mmmelon |
[Aug. 10th, 2008|07:50 pm] |
I've been wanting to make some pickled watermelon rinds (out of the white stuff, not the green stuff) all summer but all the watermelons we've gotten so far have been ripe, red, and delicious all the way to the very edges. I know I should be happy that we haven't had a bad melon all summer (except for that mystery melon S brought home from the farm that one time), but damn, I need a watermelon like I used to eat up north where the only good sweet bite of a watermelon wedge was the first one. It's weird to think that even back then, when all I knew were sub-par watermelons, they were still my favorite fruit. That is, until I abandoned them for a girl who hated melon so much she couldn't even stand the smell of it. But then I got a new girlfriend who's a lot better than my old girlfriend, and she loves watermelon too, so now my life is like a beautiful, delicious love triangle (or wedge).
4 more days til my pookie comes home, I'm trying not to eat all the melon before she gets here 'cause it's a good one. |

My baby fag_daddy is up in the Motherland for 9 days and I am here with the pets. It's the longest we've ever been apart, but I think we're going to be okay. Ah, who the hell am I kidding, I miss her like crazy already. Wearing cute panties isn't really the same when there's no one to see 'em. Coco's already claimed the spare pillows.

I am still sick from our 4-day trip to Mexico. I think it's unfair that I have been sick for more days than we were actually in Mexico, especially considering we were being incredibly anal about it and even brushed and rinsed our toothbrushes with bottled water. I've drunk water straight from a well in Africa, but a weekend trip to the Mayan Riviera does me in, what the hell? Actually, my stomach has been a finicky little snatch every since I stopped eating dairy. Maybe it misses good sharp cheddar. |

| Long weekend |
[Jul. 7th, 2008|02:37 pm] |
Going back to work after a long and glorious 3-day weekend is the worst. At least everyone in my office is pretty much on the same page about the awfulness of it, so it's less "work" and more "sitting around in offices at our workplace". Thursday we did the Terror Thursday midnight movie "Howlers 2: Werewolf Bitch" which was about as awesome as it sounds. I have a new midnight movie buddy which is nice, 'cause I cannot drag my ass out on a weeknight without a good excuse like new buddies. Friday I went to Hippie Hollow (our friendly clothing-optional county-run park smack dab in the middle of Texas), which was beautiful as usual. The water was perfect and I've switched to using a foam noodle that makes me pretty much neutrally buoyant in the water (it's like being in space, but naked). I saw no fewer than 3 cock rings, and it wasn't while I was wandering around in the bushes near the gay section. Who wears a cock ring to a nude beach? Unless it's irremovable, you shouldn't be wearing it (that's my excuse at least). Saturday S got up all early for her first day doing a work-share at a CSA farm near our house. We shared some oatmeal and she came home 5 hours later tattered, but with a kings ransom in veggies (I don't even know what we are supposed to do with 9 squashes, but it's so exciting!). That night we went to go see Gravy Train!!!! at the Mohawk outside stage, which I guess is an early venue (I'd never been). We ended up missing most of the two opening bands, and GT went on at 11 and then they finished right before midnight! Booo... Lots of hot queers though. Sunday we tried to do something with the imperial shit-ton of veggies; I ended up making a screen tray and started a batch of sun-dried tomatoes (just in time for all the rain...guess they'll be more like dash-board tomatoes). |

| 2006 |
[Jan. 19th, 2007|03:53 pm] |
It's a wee late, but I really wanted to do a year-in-review type thing. I've been feeling a little down on myself lately, due to a few recent events making me think about how much I still have yet to accomplish. I started out 2006 at the lowest point in my life, but it still ended up being the best year of my life, so I must've done something right. It was the most emotionally exhilarating and exhausting year of my life. Besides all that self-discovery shit, I just plain had an eventful year. I met and fell in love with a beautiful, wonderful person, whom I later moved in with, I tamed a wild cat, I became friends with a pit bull, I came out to my parents, I cook more now than I ever have before, and I feel like at 25, I've finally become (er, becoming) a real-live, full-blown adult (it turns out it's more than just moving out and being financially independent...).

| Thanksgiving |
[Nov. 29th, 2006|04:29 pm] |
Well, I think I've finally recovered from Thanksgiving, and I've finally made a noticeable dent in the refrigerated beer reserves.
It was my first time being in charge of a Thanksgiving dinner, and my first time cooking for so many people (we were a rag-tag group of 9), but it was actually pretty fun. Thankfully, there was no turkey to clog up the oven, so that made it a whole lot easier. We ended up having a Quorn turkey roast, since there were no UnTurkeys to be had (apparently the company that makes 'em went out of business...the guy at the co-op looked like he was about to cry) and I made acorn squash w/apple-cranberry filling, sweet potato souffle, cranberry-orange relish, stuffing, broccoli w/lemon butter, corn, pumpkin pie and sweet potato muffins (and apple-tinis!). Plus whatever people brought... I pretty much haven't had to do much cooking since.
It's been really nice living with my girlfriend. I usually have a really hard time cooking for just me...it's just not *worth* it. But now, with my new vegetarian girlfriend, cooking is awesome!! |

| the Slackers |
[Nov. 19th, 2006|09:21 am] |
I am backdating this, since it's been so damn long since I wrote something...
S and I went to go see the Slackers on Friday and met up with a new friend. I had a great time and it was a good crowd. All ages, but thankfully the underage kids were in the minority... I try not to let it bother me, because after all, I was once an overzealous 14 year old with one dance move and no mosh-pit manners, but damn it is hard sometimes. I like to think I wasn't *that* bad. The whole night was almost exactly like one of our first dates... back in March, when I invited her to go see the Skatalites with me. We were both still dumbfounded that we actually like the same types of things (I hope I never take that for granted). We shared a plate of cabbage and rice, and danced the whole show on the risers. I remember I couldn't stop looking at her and she remembers it as one of the moments she fell in love with me. (For me, it was when she told me (unashamed) that she likes to sing along with Lauren Hill in the car when her songs come on the radio.) I guess we have changed a bit since then...we are not as touchy, and I am able to peel my eyes off her now (unfortunately, I can't say that about the flailing-arm, dancing coke-head in the audience). But we do still dance the whole show.
Saturday was Big Sandy & his Fly-rite Boys at the Continental. Fucking fabulous show.

[Nov. 17th, 2006|10:44 am] |
My girlfriend found this little rascal just as she was leaving for work on Tuesday morning, following some kids to their bus stop (the dog was, not my girlfriend). We put up signs around the neighborhood but no one has come and claimed her yet, which is baffling. If this were my dog, you better believe the neighborhood would be covered in flyers. She doesn't have a microchip, but the animal shelter is going to put a picture of her up on their lost and found webpage. The more time I spend with her, the more I want to keep her...
My number one motivator to quit drinking coffee is my complete inability to not spill it all over my desk at work. What the hell is wrong with me? |

| Zombies in plays |
[Nov. 10th, 2006|10:16 am] |
Went to Bitten! A Zombie Rock Oddessy last night at Arts on Real. It was a little long and the seats were a tad cramped but it was still mostly enjoyable. The music was all done by local band the Unbearables and it was definitely the better half of the production. The acting was pretty fucking bad for the most part. It was supposed to be campy, but a couple of them were just completely half-assing it (which I wouldn't think would be possible while playing a zombie, but it is) the whole time. Maybe they were pissed because there were more cast and crew members than people in the audience.... Ah well, it was still pretty fun.
Tomorrow is Art from the Streets at ARCH then the Red Elvises at the Continental Club. Also Stitch is going on, but we won't be able to stay for the fashion show part and I'm not sure if I want to spend $10 to go to the craft bazaar. We'll see.. |

Watched the election returns down at the Fox and Hound pub last night. ($2 pints!) I'm still doing my republicans-lost-control-of-congress victory dance...oh yeahhh. It must've been a long night for the closed-captioning typist, though. After a while it became a sort of game trying to figure out what words like "toiw" and "fjal" meant and where places like "Record Island" were. But my favorite for the night was definitely "Rim Santorum".
And then watching his kids cry during his concession speech? What an awesome night.

[Oct. 17th, 2006|02:41 pm] |
Just saw KILL BILL: THE UNSEEN, UNCENSORED FULL-LENGTH CUT (with QT live!) at the Alamo this weekend. Fucking awesome. It really didn't seem that much more violent than the theatrical release though (but then again, I do love me some gore!) It was great to see the whole thing on the big screen again. Sunday was the South First Art Walk, which was fun even though the weather was not-so-much (nothing like walking around in the hot-ass sun in rain-soaked clothes, carrying art).
Oh yeah, and Friday was the Erotic Carnival at the Vortex. We just missed the suspension by Diablo Rojo, which was too bad, but it was still fun! My first time wearing garters too... fun times! |

| Moving to Round Rock |
[Oct. 10th, 2006|04:11 pm] |
|
Well, I done did move to Round Rock. Never thought I would be living in the suburbs again, but here I am. I must admit I was scared shitless at first, but actually, it is sort-of fabulous. Yards, and garages, and big rooms! Not to mention getting to wake up with my hot-and-very-snuggleable girlfriend at my side every morning. Plus there's a certain joy I find in getting to be the "subversive neighbor"... |
